Top Malls in Mecca: A Shopper’s Paradise
Let me give you the lowdown on the best malls in Mecca, based on my own explorations. These aren’t just places to shop; they’re social hubs, offering a glimpse into everyday life in this fascinating city.
Hijaz Mall: Your Go-To for Everyday Needs
Located on the Makkah-Jeddah Expressway, Hijaz Mall is super convenient. I often pop in here for groceries or a quick coffee at Starbucks. They’ve got a good mix of international and local brands, including Jarir Bookstore (a must for bookworms!). Last week, I picked up a new Arabic grammar book there. They’ve even got a decent-sized family entertainment center – perfect if you’ve got little ones in tow.
- Key Stores: Jarir Bookstore, Starbucks, Skechers, Giordano, MAC, DAMAS, Tim Hortons
- Opening Hours: 8 AM – 12 AM (Daily), 5:30 AM – 12 AM (Fridays)

Al Diyafa Mall: Family Fun for Everyone
Al Diyafa Mall in the Al Zaher district is my kids’ favorite. It’s got a great play area, and I always end up browsing the toy shops with them (much to their delight!). The mall itself is beautifully designed, and you can find some really nice cafes there – perfect for escaping the hustle and bustle for a bit. Plus, they have a pretty impressive selection of international fashion and beauty brands.

City Center Mecca: Late-Night Shopping and Entertainment
City Center is the place to be if you’re a night owl. They’re open late, which is perfect for after-dinner browsing. The food court is pretty diverse – I remember trying some delicious kunafa there last week. And for something a little different, they even have an ice-skating rink! It’s a fun activity for the whole family.

Makkah Mall: One-Stop Shop for Everything
Makkah Mall is probably one of the busiest malls I’ve seen, and for good reason. It’s massive, with two floors packed with shops and a huge food court. You can find almost anything here, from groceries at Panda supermarket to fast food favorites like McDonald’s and Burger King. My kids love the Billy Beez amusement park there. It’s a great place to let them burn off some energy.

Abraj Al-Bait Shopping Center: A Unique Shopping Experience
If you’re looking for souvenirs or traditional goods, the Abraj Al-Bait Shopping Center, located in the impressive Makkah Clock Tower, is definitely worth visiting. The location is unparalleled – right next to the Holy Mosque. The mall is open 24/7, making it incredibly convenient. I often find myself wandering through the shops, admiring the perfumes, jewelry, and local crafts.
